In the late 1940s the YM still had a wall at the front but all the metal railings had been removed to aid the war effort.

PKT3356 -240247 1951 Well trained and looking full of confidence, men of the 1st Battalion, the King's Shropshire Light Infantry, are seen on the quayside at the Korean Port of Inchon, where they disembarked recently after the sea voyage from Hong Kong. The KSLI's relieved the 1st Battalion, the Middlesex Regiment, which has just completed nine months service in Korea.
